 Plot
‘I took the test
and prayed for the colour of the lines on the strip to stay as they were. But
they did not. The test was positive. I felt my entire world come crashing down
around me.’
Meet Ananya Sharma, not your regular, teenage girl-next-door. Sure, she loves
hanging out with her friends and engaging in whispered confidences at
sleepovers, but when it comes to boys, she has competition on her mind rather
than romance.
At school, she is passionate about math and the sciences,
and completely focussed on cracking the IIT entrance exams.
But when distraction enters her life in the form of the handsome and charming
Rohit, Ananya discovers love, longing and betrayal, all at once. Finding
herself pregnant at the age of seventeen, she learns that the world is a very
different place once you are on its wrong side. The discovery of the fault
lines in
her parents’ relationship—which until then had seemed perfect to her—further
breaks her.
Will Ananya be able to reverse the downward spiral that her life has plunged
into and find meaning once again?

In this wonderfully stark and honest portrayal of a teenager’s life, Ananya: A
Bittersweet Journey has managed to encapsulate an entire generation’s struggle
of growing up in today’s often troubled times.

Highlights
¥
I Loved the fact how the author
has divided the whole book into three parts
1: Incy wincy spider climbed up the water spout.
2:
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
3: Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
¥
The account of Ananya takes you
to the varied emotions you encounter in your day to day life.
¥
The first part of the book
takes you to your school days where you mingle around with friends. That part
surely made me go back to my school days the way we used to hangout. The
journey started is awesome
¥
In
the second part :When Rohit crumples Ananya’s trust and leaves her to face the
brutal realities of the world, you cannot help but feel sorry for her. The way
all her dreams and aspirations tumble down because of trusting the wrong person
is poignantly depicted by the author. The author has beautifully described the
scars of Ananya that were not only physical, but also psychological. Shilpa
Ma’am has done a wonderful job in giving life to Ananya. I loved the fact that
the story was penned down in a realistic manner.
¥
The third part of the story is
the winner for me. The character of Karuna, (psychologist of Ananya) is so
beautifully sketched that she seems to be the guardian angel of Ananya.
¥
Few quotes from the books which
I would love to quote:

Find positive ways to get your
feelings out- take up some hobby –write paint draw or cook. Don’t worry if your
work doesn’t sound professional. No one else has to see it but you. Go back to
your normal life & old friends as soon as possible.”
¥
What is
the meaning of life? What are we all here for? Is it all about I, ME &
MYSELF? Is it all about the rat race in which everyone is running but no one is
winning?
sad but so true somewhere in
this fast world you have forgotten yourself. You are earning big bucks yet you
don’t have time to spend your money.
¥
The most unique part about the
book is the cover.it shows an array of emotions which makes one
A wonderful read.
                                                               RATING 4/5
