Capital Coffee: Divergent By Veronica Roth!

Here’s my take on Divergent by Veronica Roth.

Divergent is the debut novel of American novelist Veronica Roth – now a movie.

In a post-apocalyptic Chicago, citizens are defined by their social life and personality with five different factions-Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). Each year, all sixteen years’ old have to select the faction to which they will devote their lives.
Beatrice Prior born in Abnegation family, doesn’t feel she belongs there. On choosing day Beatrice surprises everyone by her choice.

During initiation competition, she renames herself Tris. She has to undergo physical tests and psychological simulations with her fellow initiates. Tris must know who her friends really are, since she has a secret kept hidden because revealing it can cause her death. Tris with her fellow trainer discovers upcoming conflict that threaten to her society. She uses her secret to save her loved one but is not 100% successful. She is not sure about her future after all the conflict and loss suffered by her.

Book ends here taking a pause and rising curiosity among readers regarding her next steps which are revealed in next book Insurgent.

4.5/5 stars from my side.
